The inevitable happened!! :-)

I knew someday I would not time my walk back from Race Point Lighthouse correctly…. well, today was that day! I left through Hatches Harbor very early this morning - all bundled up - the “feels like” temp was 17!! Off I went thinking … it is high tide at 9am so I won’t be walking all the way out to the Lighthouse and beach - and I was ok with that. Well……. when I got to the area where I can actually see how high the tide is it was the lowest I had ever seen it! I absolutely could not figure it out… so I said - it must be that it is meant to be for me to head out to the Lighthouse and then the beach … so off I went…

I kept waiting for the sun to pop - the sky was filled in with low clouds and I knew at some point the sun would pop and it would be glorious - a dusting of snow on the dunes from the night before! Well…. I made it all the way out and I was not getting the lighting I hoped for but was still really happy I was out there - it is just so beautiful with the waves crashing… just me and the seagulls…

I finally decided to head back - all the while hoping the sun would pop. As soon as I crested the dune area where I could the portion of Hatches Harbor that I would either walk through or around… I could not believe my eyes!!! The tide had totally filled in!!!! I thought no problem I will go the long way around (which I have done before) and then cut over to the path I had come out on…. well - that was NOT possible! The tide was racing in!!! I thought ok - now Plan C - walk back ALL the way along the Race Point Fire Road to the Race Point parking lot and then take the road back to the parking area for Hatches…. I knew I could do it but wow that had not been the plan!1 LOL….. I thought…. ok maybe I will be rewarded with better lighting somewhere along the way… I called Lorraine and said - don’t worry about me I just made a much longer walk back to the car for myself!!

So off I went….. amazing how much heavier my pack felt now that I knew I added a much longer way back to the car! :-)…. The walk is always stunning and today was no exception…. on this trek you are just surrounded by dunes in every direction that you look….

Finally the lighting got better and better…. and I kept thinking that this is a morning I should try a black and white landscape…. so here are two shots… one in color and the other in black and white… I hope you enjoy!

Oh, and when I finally made it back to the car… it had been a roundtrip trek of 4.8 miles… I think I will take a nap later! lol!
