Incredible Bullitt Morning

This morning I went to Bullitt…. we had a nice frost, no wind, and it just below 32 degrees. My game plan was to start in the upper field and then work my way down back to the fields near the building. I have been at Bullitt a few times trying to figure out where to be when based on the dramatic low angle light we have this time of year. It was so still this morning that every little song and peep helped me spot our little feathered friends. I walked a little past the upper field on the trail that leads into the woods and decided to turn around. I walked back and set up right at the back upper corner of the upper field - I was rewarded almost instantly… I heard a brown creeper and then a few moments later I spotted it… I was thrilled as I have been seeing them lately but not getting any good photo opportunities… well this morning was my morning to snag a pic of these amazing little birds.

Brown Creeper

Next I heard quite a few Tufted Titmice and caught this one just as the sun was coming up over my left shoulder.

I love setting up next to the ragweed and all kinds of weeds just as the sun cuts across the field. This adorable chickadee was finding all kinds of little things to eat.

The light was incredible so I kept with my game plan and quickly made my way to the field back down towards the building. As soon as I got close I could see all kinds of flitting around… I set up quickly and instantly this Dark-eyed Junko put on this show for me.

I made my way over closer to the building and then totally scored with goldfinch…. I had recently been at Bullitt and scoped out a couple of new places to set up, and to wait, and to wait… It all came together this morning…

I will leave you with the following several finch shots…. these moments took my breath away…. I hope that you enjoy -

And then my final shot of the morning…
